What ACCUPLACER test scores satisfy the "Ability to Benefit" rule for federal financial aid eligibility?
  Question
What are the ACCUPLACER test scores that satisfy the U.S. Department of Education "Ability to Benefit" rule for federal financial aid eligibility?
  Answer

To be eligible for federal financial aid, the U.S. Department of Education requires that a student must earn a high school diploma, a General Education Development (GED) certificate or passing scores on an approved placement test. In the Dallas County Community College District, the ACCUPLACER  is the approved exam generally used to determine "Ability to Benefit."

To demonstrate an ability to benefit, financial aid applicants without a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) must earn the following minimum ACCUPLACER test scores: Reading Comprehension - 55, Sentence Skills - 60, and Arithmetic - 34 (2008-09 FSA Handbook, Volume 1, Chapter 1, page 1-9).

Please contact the financial aid office at your college for more information.
